An EFA Board or staff member has spoken with many of you regarding the review of our strategy and application procedures which began in 2008 by the EFA Board of Directors, when they commissioned a Grantee Perception Report by the Center for Effective Philanthropy. During these challenging financial times, we would like to take this opportunity to convey to you our plans for the immediate future and thoughts about long-term prospects.
First and foremost-thank you. Thank you for taking the time if you gave our foundation feedback through the Grantee Perception Report. The feedback has sparked the foundation to look seriously at our grant making approach. Combining this feedback with the reality of the economy, makes this an ideal time for the foundation to ruminate and fine-tune our grantmaking strategy and application approach. As such, we ask your patience in the coming year, as we complete this strategic process. For the time being we will suspend acceptance of Letters of Inquiry.
For those proposals that have been invited and/or submitted, we will continue our process, and your submission will be decided upon by the EFA Board of Directors. Given the backlog of proposals, we may not be able to give you a timeframe in which your proposal will be reviewed, but you will be contacted by an EFA staff once we have more information.
For our currently funded grantees, EFA remains committed to supporting the important work that you do. We understand that some of you may be experiencing difficulties in moving forward with the projects that were approved by the EFA Board of Directors due to your current or anticipated financial constraints. If this is the case, we urge you to contact your EFA staff member and discuss your situation.
During this transition period, we want to maintain open communication with you, set clear expectations, show flexibility in execution, and develop our partnerships with you so that success is achievable for all. Please feel free to contact an EFA program staff member, or send your questions and concerns to loi@efaw.org.
Sincerely,
Diane Allison
